As soon as the rain stops I will be working in the garden.  I hope it clears tomorrow Tuesday so I can get started.

Hope you all had a great Christmas.  I must confess I fell asleep and missed the Red Moon, but I gues I did not miss much as Mark says it did not show.

Please spend some time reading on these rainy days.  I am almost done with my second book.

If it is not raining I will go to the garden tomorrow and will post it prior to going.

Watch the eclipse tonight.  THe moon should be full and high in the sky and then turn an eerie color of red.  Best viewing between 9:45 and 10:50.  Copy and paste this link to your browser and read about it.

This weekend is the new moon.  We will be yanking out all the old corn and digging up that area in preparation for new plantings.  We will plant our new moon beans and also some root vegetable: red and orange carrots, raddishes, onions, etc.   We will be working int he garden form 9am to 11am Sunday if you would like to join us.

A1 and A3 students planted two more rows of beans today on the half moon.  A1 planted a row to the right of the full moon beans and A3 planted their first row of moon beans on the other side of the net.   Keep you eye on the garden and watch for the sprouts to break through the ground and record it on the chart.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  I went by the garden this afternoon and the full moon beans are starting t o push up through the soil.  We saw two sprouts and tomorrow I think there will be alot more because the gound was raised and cracked in several spots.    I will be in the garden and classroom from 9am to 11am Sat. morning if anyone wants to come by and count bean sprouts and yank out some of those old dead corn

A-1 students enjoyed the yam harvest this morning.  It was like digging for burried treasures.   We will sell them tomorrow tomorrow just in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Post your thoughts about the yams.  Do you eat yams?  Do you love yams? How do you like them what do you know about them?

See more yam harvest photos on garden club page!!

Special thanks to James, Jessica, and Sara for coming out to the garden early Sunday evening to plant our Full Moon Beans.  I hope you all had an opportunity to observe the full moon Sunday night it was big, bright, and beautiful.  Perfectly round and luminous with a misty glow.  Keep your eye on the moon each night this week and check the beans daily to count sprouts.  Please comment on your observations of the sky and garden.

On Saturday 11/13 we began or new garden experiment on how the lunar cycle effects the germination of bean seeds.  We planted our first row of bean seeds when the moon was at 50% full.  We will plant a second and third row during the full moon and new moon phases.  Do some research and make a prediction on how the moon phases might effect the germination and growth of the plants.

Today we held our first garden sale.   Our goal was to earn $43.00.  We had 12 bags of beans at $2.50 each, several bunches of carrots at  0.50 cents each as well as lilikoi and turnips for 0.50 cents and a few bunch of rosemary, sage, and time for $1.00 each.   We sold all of the green beans and lilikoi and most of the carrots.  The turnips were not a popular.  I beleive total sales were about $50.00 we need to recount it tomorrow.   Thank you all the hardworking students in A1 and garden club.   Special thanks to all the parents, students, and teachers who support our project and made purchases.

Please share your thoughts about the garden sale.
